The Fear of Starting Online Marketing

Many beginners wonder how to start marketing? Their biggest mistake is to continue to wonder. Being afraid to do anything can overwhelm anyone but by just starting to do one thing, several times over, begins to alleviate this fear. Taking the initiative to start is by its own definition beginning to market.

Marketing online requires two main components.

One: a product or service, and

Two: YOU

The product or service element is looked at as a physical component. Either you re promoting some product that has been developed by you, i.e. an ebook or self-assist course. The ebook subject range is vast and con be on almost any topic. Your experience and knowledge is your first resource to compose such an ebook.

Finding a market for this takes research and time. You want to find a large enough market to support your ebook, but drill down deeper into that market to find a section that you can be considered the expert. The larger the market, the more opportunities for many sections within that you can focus on.

The service element is providing your time and effort to accomplish tasks that others are willing to pay you for. House cleaning, car mechanic, hypnosis are just a few examples. Your marketing efforts in these areas are generally localized and you will find that your marketing will be both online and offline.

It is All About You and Then Again, It is Not

The second and most important component is you. Regardless of the decided upon product or service, you will be marketing you. People won’t necessarily purchase anything from anyone and are more skeptical of internet hype. Your main focus will be what you’re about: what you offer that sets you apart from others in your chosen niche: why they should trust you over someone else. You are here to help others, give before you get.

This is the longer process because trust takes time to build. And if you are unsure of how to start marketing, you will be even further unsure how to establish trust. To succeed, you have to actually do something, do it for some time and do it well.

As many come into online marketing, some have prior skills and/or knowledge while many are hoping to turn a hobby in to a money making opportunity. Each can work well. Your commitment to the amount of research, the commitment to stick with it and the commitment to learn as you progress will determine your success.

It is simpler to write an ebook if you have prior knowledge and experience. You know where to find supporting information to fill in gaps for your advice. To produce the same for a hobby may take more time to find the quality data to support your ebook. That is where the commitment aspect will help and since it is your hobby, the time element is not exhausting.

Some aren’t so lucky to be able to create, yet!

If your decision is not to promote your own product, there are multiple products available that you can affiliate with. Promoting other peoples products is a great way to get your feet wet in the venue of online marketing. Doing a simple search on the internet for affiliate programs will provide you hundreds to choose from.

To begin marketing or promoting online, regardless of the chosen avenue, will take effort and time. Depending on the way you decide to go about this action could also require a monetary investment. The real issue is you will need to commit to actually doing something. You must take the plunge. In our next few entries, we shall explore individual elements for promotional activity to ensure that you can start marketing without fear of starting.
