Is Your Hobby Driven By Dreams or Desire?

WHEN A HOBBY IS DESIRED
…..There are many that believe that their hobby is a money maker.
Nice try but you may be fooling yourself. Your hobby may not turn
into a money maker without several elements incorporated first.
One – hobbies are activities we involve ourselves to pass time
because they present a release from day to day stress,
Two – hobbies are easier to be active in because there is no pressure
to complete, massively,
Three – hobbies are not looked upon as a must to place
food on the table, and
Four – hobbies are not converted into money makers because
there is very little desire
For an activity to become a money maker, there must be a market for it.
There must be a way for mass appeal and performance. There must be a
strong desire for the knowledge. And there must be a firm driver behind the product
or program to make it a business; the willingness to work at it not just dabble in it.
WORKING FOR YOUR FUTURE
…….
This is not to say your hobby cannot be a money maker,
but just to think it may does not do yourself or the hobby justice.
If you make an item and want to sell it, there must be buyers for it.
If you create a book and want to market it, there must be others willing
to read it. If you created something, there must be others that need it.
Not every idea is a “pet rock” idea or a “hula hoop” idea.
Having fun with woodworking does not mean that doing it for crabby
customers makes the happy hobby profitable. Many get going into their hobby,
try to turn it into a money maker, and find they no longer enjoy what they were doing.
Why? The hobby changed into something completely different.
No longer is it just doing the fun activity but now it also means receipts,
collections, negotiations, price setting, finding customers, keeping up with
orders, returns, unhappy prospects, lack of marketing training, etc.
NO REST FOR THE WICKED
……
Changing from taking instructions and having things previously
laid out, to know what must be done today, tomorrow and next week to
being the creative force, the manufacturer, to distribution,
to answering phones is extremely different.
It creates a completely different element; desire. The desire to create,
to use ones imagination and be their own boss resonates with many but the
reason so many do not get into this activity is due to the multiple hats that will
eventually be worn; or you must hire.
Where desire to succeed comes from and how it is implemented are two
different things. Sure we all desire to be rich, to win the lottery, to invent the
next big thing but in reality, most of us have been taught from the time in grade
school to work for someone else. The comfort level of a steady paycheck; the comfort
of having things to do; the comfort of consistency.
Working for yourself is quite rewarding. Choose wisely your way for a hobby
turned to a business has to be run as a business. There is so much more to do
then just the hobby activity and to not take this into account is very shortsighted.
ONLY TRUE DESIRE TAKES THE CREAM
……
Imagination is a very powerful resource; creativity is the structure
behind this entity; action is what makes it worth the effort. Desire is
what keeps things going when it is extremely difficult to continue.
Desire should not be confused with desperation. If you are backed
up against a wall, the hobby may not be the way to go. Doing this hobby as
a home based business would need to be started slowly and in controlled
activity. Building it slowly makes the many hats simpler to wear.
Desire takes hold deep inside; from the depths of the soul to the
point of near control. You desire food but when extremely hungry, desire
makes your mind less controllable. The hobby that is fun will change quickly
if desire is put into action for a money maker and only the person
knows if they have the right desire.
I could never discourage anyone from following a dream that has
the desire to make it, because those with desire will not quit; will not give up;
will do what it takes; takes negativity and bust through it. I want those
individuals to be involved with, these are the entrepreneurs that online marketing is good for.
Are you full of desire?
