The Fear of the Unknown
Think back in your life to times you were wandering into a situation of which you did not know what was going to happen. Maybe you just lost a job; your first child was born; took a trip to a foreign country; moved into a new neighborhood; walked into a new school. These are a few instances we can reflect on where the outcome was incomprehensible.
You walked differently at the initial stages of this uncomfortable situation and your senses were heightened. You could feel every eye upon you so you did little to try and attract attention, but it did not matter what action you took, you just knew everyone was studying every movement.
Now how did those situations work out after some time had past? You draw on these kinds of experiences to shape your life in the years that followed. So now you have decided that internet marketing is an avenue to explore because of the power that is available, but you are unsure of what to do. You’re overwhelmed by the information you have been researching and don’t know what to do next.
This fear is real and can be debilitating. Big Danger! The thing about marketing that most don’t understand is this; what it comes down to is you.
People purchase items or information from people. People that they trust and believe to be an expert in the information they need to solve their particular problem or situation.
When deciding how and what to market, you need to find a comfort level within yourself that you can provide your knowledge. We all have experience in some area which we know more about than many others. We have been involved with some activity, profession, hobby or service that provided us with this knowledge. There are many others that need to know what your know.
Ways to Get That Out There
By taking some time to prepare yourself an outline of your knowledge/skill will assist you tremendously. Putting down on paper in front of you can open your eyes to your knowledge base. Take a few minutes and jot down words or descriptive phrases regarding your area of knowledge. List as many as you can as they flow out of your memory. Don’t worry about the need to make sense of each phrase, just begin writing them down. If you hit a wall, look through the list again and allow those words to jog other thoughts and write them down.
After a period of time your list will be extensive. You will be amazed in the knowledge that you have. By keeping this list handy, you now have an extensive subject model to base many articles and blog posts regarding your service and ways to market what you can offer others.
With this list, as yourself questions like;
- “How would this assist…..?”
- “What are ways to get….?”
- “Can this create…?”
Can you see some patterns developing? Can you prepare written reports that answer people’s questions or concerns? If so, you may have the makings of an ebook or report that you can now prepare, sell or give away on your site with multiple follow up information that is related.
You No Longer Need the Overwhelming Fear
Remember, people get on the internet to solve their particular problems or seek information regarding a situation they have found themselves in. You are simply providing their solution. With this knowledge and your list, you can structure your marketing to satisfy these issues and may have enough material to promote for many weeks.
Try it! You will amaze yourself and shortly the fear of the unknown will transform into more excitement than you have had in quite some time. You will become enlightened and more creative as you develop several projects relating to your craft. You will also be helping many others improve their lives and there is no greater feeling than assisting others.
