All businesses are in the communication business and being able to speak about what you provide to others is key to your success. Yet you will never be able to please everyone and you shouldn’t. In fact, there are some visitors to your site that have no intention of being your fan. They are more interested in bashing you, your product or service, your company or maybe the color of your shirt in the latest video.

This game of Network/Internet Marketing is not about pleasing everyone. We all do not get a trophy for participation; this is real life and there are stumbling blocks in our way every day. How you go through these determines your strength and business longevity.

Learn as much as you can each day about yourself, your customers, your detractors and the internet because there can be more fans than ‘yellers’ out there and it will be important to find them. The earlier the better so they are able to ‘toot your horn’. Provide value and the fans will be there, tossing ‘whatever‘  on your stage.

We all have heard that it is our actions that ultimately define us. Either how you act; the action you put into your effort; or the lack of action, will determine their success at the end of the day.

When some get involved in a new activity, they are afraid to do much. The fact that we will make mistakes and show others that we do not know what we are doing is an embarrassment and therefore, some do not move forward.

Let me describe a little known fact about marketing that could reduce your overall stress. It won’t necessarily get you up from the couch and become more involved, but this could show you the real difficulty of acting is located within a mental zone.

Procrastination is a major attribute at the beginning of something new. If we are unsure of what to do, we are less likely to jump in and just do. It’s like going to the swimming pool, dipping only the big toe in to test the water, and then standing at the edge not yet sure if we should jump in, wade in or forget it and go back to get that ‘umbrella drink’.

Internet/Network Marketing requires only a few skills. Some of these skills you have been mastering your entire life, others will require you to be involved, to learn, and to try over and over again.

The basic principal of marketing is communication. It requires speaking, writing, again and again. Knowledge becomes the confidence breaker to accomplish these actions, which I find somewhat ironic because there are many people that love to express their opinions regardless if they know anything or not about the particular subject.

Determining the structure of your message, the process in which the message is portrayed, is the critical element of marketing. There is one real thought to know; humans require food, water and interaction to survive. Nothing more.

We do not need your program, service or product so you must convince us that we want it, to give it a try and why they should. What are its benefits and why will it improve, reduce stress, make things simpler for, your marketing audience. It will be the marketing message that you prepare, not the product.

Conveying your message with words whether you are writing them to be read or for you to speak in front of a camera, your message should be clear, concise, to the point and with minimal fluff.

You have been communicating all your life so why forget how to do it since you are marketing now?  You will never know all the answers unless you ask and asking is the beginning of action taken. What is the worst you will hear? Did you have anything before asking?

Once you do ask, then you will know what you have!!!!

Recently, the Colorado legislators passed a law, referred to as the ‘nexus’ tax which basically states that an online affiliate marketer doing online sales here will be required to collect a ‘sales tax’ and pay to the state.

Amazon, a very respected and highly trafficked site for product purchases, recently informed all of their affiliates located in Colorado that their relationship with them was over. No more Amazon affiliates in Colorado.

This law, the Affiliate Nexus Tax, AKA the “Amazon tax”, currently is in effect in four states; New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island and now Colorado, can have a tremendous effect on any affiliate. Yes Rhode Island is in the process of repelling the law but there are 13 other states currently looking into enacting this ‘nexus’ law and Virginia is very near approving one.

Has Amazon taken a stand for us small affiliates?

Amazon has an ongoing battle with the state of New York on the unconstitutionality of this law. The encroachment philosophy currently permeating throughout our federal and state governments could absolutely kill our way of life as we know it.

Colorado followed other states by increasing taxes, eliminating a long standing “physical presence” standard of residing and conducting business locally and replaced it with a nebulous, arbitrary standard of “economic presence” (physical vs. economic presence is large when it comes to nexus).

“Once you have nexus in a state, you then have to be set up to collect and
pay sales tax in that state. And CA is going even further in
claiming they have rights to tax your income as well.”

California wants to go further stating nexus will apply should you employ the services of any independent contractor (virtual assistant, lawyer, coach, consultant), a state that is almost bankrupt.

We are being told that the rich need to pay more of their fare share. What! The truth is shown in the chart below:
